Review of The Witch (2016) by Tony B — 23 Jan 2017
After reading the reviews for this movie I feel I need to set the story straight. This is NOT a horror/slasher film. I've read countless reviewers who deemed this film as "boring" or "garbage" and it's quite obvious from their reviews that they were expecting something from this film that it absolutely is not.
This film at it's core is a simple story of about a New England family who is cast out on their own. It is a psychological thriller, not a horror movie. Do not go into this movie expecting blood and gore and jump scares.
This film does an excellent job of keeping the tension high throughout and makes for, in my opinion, one of my favorite films of 2016. The only thing I would fault this film for is that the dialogue was at times very hard to understand.
I don't know if it was the accent, the manor of their speech pattern, or the deep gravely timbre of one of the main characters voices. Regardless I liked this movie and it was far from "boring".
