Review of The Witch (2016) by Evan H — 28 Nov 2017
An instant horror classic. A masterpiece in every sense of the word. The Witch doesn't rely on cheap jump scares or excessive violence like some other lowest-common-denominator fare. It makes you feel uneasy and question everything, giving you a sense of dread.
It builds up to a satisfying climax and begs to be re-watched. Those who dislike this movie simply can't enjoy a horror movie with nuance and subtlety, they just want jump scares and CGI blood. This movie is about the story, the setting and the era.
It's beautifully shot and acted. I can't praise it enough.
