"The Witch" is in my opinion a dark and brooding supernatural drama. It's not really a horror movie as it was marketed, although some of the scenes are brutal to witness. It's well acted, moody, beautifully shot, and subdued.
It's a very adult movie which is why I think it's got such pushback from the horror community. The shame of the film is that it was marketed as something it's not. At least for this viewer, the constant sense of fear and tension that means a good horror movie was lacking.
All in all, VERY worth watching, but not as advertised.
