Review of The Wind That Shakes the Barley (2006) by Chris W — 30 Apr 2008
Ken Loach's incendiary film about the Irish troubles is many things.Set around the civil war that erupted when the British/Irish peace treaty split the Irish Republican Army in half, the stroy, beautifully written by Paul Laverty, focuses in on two brothers on either side of the battle.
With a stirring performance from Cillian Murphy, and an unflinching eye for the brutality of this war,Loach crafts a film of real gut and heart.Moving and relevant, much like the majority of Loach's work.
