Review of The Wind That Shakes the Barley (2006) by Emma L — 30 May 2008
Intense and gritty, with the characters thrown straight into armed conflict, in the beautiful green hills of Ireland. Cillian Murphy gives a haunting performance as Damian. As the story develops, the sadness and bitterness of the Irish dilemma, first oppressed by the British and then manipulated by them to turn against each other, burns through.
The dialogue is realistic, halting at times.
