Cillian Murphy's performance has been described as "soft-spoken," which is accurate if that term means "unintelligible." Thankfully, the DVD version has English subtitles. The depiction of the oppressive British is heavy-handed, and the plot is as bleak and humorless as a winter night in Belfast.
OK, so maybe it was an accurate portrayal of the English and Irish brutality of the times, but there was little to be learned from this movie (the English are assholes? You're kidding!).
