Review of The Wind That Shakes the Barley (2006) by Charlie B — 14 Apr 2009
This film had some great scenes, great acting, great cinematography and a very interesting piece of history to base the story on. Portrays the overall view of each group pretty well. The only slight short comings of this film are the real lack of character development.
The only person with any real depth is Damian. The views of some of the characters appear to not have come from their heart or experiences, but are rather are the views of the group they were meant to be representing in the film.
Instructive, but lost some dramatical effect. In addition, I wasn't 100% certain that Teddy was actually his brother until the last 20 minutes when they actually started talking (probably my failing though).
It is possible that all this could have been deliberate to try an draw you in to the movie to a greater depth than if everything had been put on a silver platter for the viewer, thereby requiring no thought at all.
