Review of The Wind That Shakes the Barley (2006) by Mike D — 31 Jul 2010
The Wind that Shakes the Barley is the Irish equivalent of Braveheart but set in 1920. The IRA is trying to stop the Brits from taking over all of Ireland.
This movie would probably have been great if I could have understood a goddamn thing they said. No subtitles and THICK accents make it real hard on an American. Sure it preserves the genuineness of the situation but it does me no good if I am missing huge pieces of the plot.
I am a supporter of the IRA and their work to preserve freedom for their people. I would like to have had this movie been accessible to others that can help spread the history of this injustice. Oh, well. Maybe some other movie will recover the ball that Barley dropped.
