Review of The Wind That Shakes the Barley (2006) by Judge L — 23 Jul 2011
Screw Inglorious Basterds this film really should've had that title. It's a very beautifully shot film showing Ireland in some of it's darkest times during its long civil war, showing the nature of the war change throughout with strong performances, especially from Cillian Murphy.
War is very inglorified in this film as it starts from a simple war "we're the home team they're the enemy team" to a state of paranoia. Give this film a chance if you're Irish or just interested in seeing a fairly accurate portrayal of the civil war.
