Review of The Wind That Shakes the Barley (2006) by Alex H — 01 Aug 2012
The Wind That Shakes the Barley is a complex and (more or less) morally ambiguous portrait of the Irish Republican Army and there are few narrative guideposts to keep the inattentive viewer on track (revolutionary politics ain't as simple as V for Vendetta, guys).
Loach ain't one to hold yer hand. He's also one of few filmmakers I know whose films I can return to again and again. Every scene is talky and great and meaty and meaningful.
