Review of The Wind and the Lion (1975) by Stephen C — 27 May 2008
The kind of film s that Hollywood does not make anymore and its a shame that they dont as this one is a cracker.
John Milius is very much a mans ,mans kind of director and although this film contains a lot of Milius themes.
The film tones it down and gives us An almost Boys Own type of Adventure.
Connery is on Top Form as The Arab Chieftain who kidnaps Candice Bergen (feisty and giving as good as she gets) who pits his wits against Teddy Roosvelt (A wonderful Brian Keith).
With a neat cameo from the Great John Huston ,Milius packs his film with tons of great action and some ace dilaogue.
A great companion Piece to Hustons own The Man Who Would Be King and plenty to keep your eye on the screen ,This is Still Milius best film.
