Review of The Wild Bunch (1969) by Private U — 21 Nov 2013
One of the masterpieces of modern cinema.
Sam Peckinpah's tale of the Old West and its heroes giving way to a modern era is still breathtaking today.
It will not appeal to all and many will say that Peckinpah's greatest moment in cinema came with "Ride The High Country" which is also stunning.
But this film really does mark a new dawn in film with the advent of extreme violence, but not just for the sake of it.
If you are going to criticise this film purely on its violence then you will be missing the point of the story, its themes and underlying messages.
