Review of The Wild and Wonderful Whites of West Virginia (2009) by Bryan S — 12 Feb 2011
By far one of the most captivating yet devastating documentary films out there. And to think that Johnny Knoxville was behind this, gives me a different outlook on his regular antics. This film has managed to find possibly the worst family in America and catapult them into movie stardom.
Watching this reminds me of why MTV's Jersey Shore gained popularity. Nobody wants to be like these people. Their shortcoming's and lack of self-morals are what we thrive on. It gives us a sense of Pride that we are not like them.
Pride is a dangerous drug. WWWV is ten times worse than Jersey Shore, almost unbearable at times. At the end of the film I felt sick to my stomach. Knowing those people are out there. My question is, what am I going to do about it? Never travel through WV.
Probably. Seriously though, the government of WV needs to address the decaying culture that embodies the State. Jobs, education, health standards, malpractice, corrupt authority. I feel that somehow America is to blame in this.
I feel even worse for those poor children born into this lifestyle. I was glad to see that the CPS of WV was cracking down on drug abusing mothers. Train wreck of a movie that you can't look away from.
