Review of The Wild (2006) by Kevin R — 11 Mar 2013
I can't imagine beginning the day without licking myself.
A lion cub in the New York City Zoo struggles with being the son of the established lead lion of the zoo. As he mopes and seeks his place in the zoo, he is accidentally placed in a box and scheduled to be shipped back to Africa. The father lion and some friends will try to save him before it is too late.
"Do you know the one where I made the laughing hyenas cry?".
Steve Williams, who worked on the visual effects for Jumanji, The Mask, Spawn, Eraser, Terminator 2, Jurassic Park, the Abyss, and The Hunt for Red October, delivers The Wild in his directorial debut. The storyline for this picture is fairly flimsy and the characters are pretty lame. The animation is okay but not elite.
"Loving you is easy because you're beautiful.".
The Wild is a movie my daughter received for Christmas from her grandmother. It took us a little while to get around to watching it but I will say I wasn't missing much. This was an obvious Madagascar rip-off with less interesting characters and voices. The characters were not overly entertaining or made you feel like they were worth investing in and the plot is pretty unremarkable. I'd say this is a below average addition to the genre.
Grade: C-.
