Review of The Wicker Man (2006) by Zach N — 17 Jul 2010
"The Wicker Man" is most definitely one of the worst movies I have ever seen. It is also one of the funniest movies I have ever seen. The unfortunate thing is that it's an unintentional comedy, with a horrible script, horrible acting, and awful special effects. All I can say is, Nicholas Cage. What were you thinking? This movie is not one bit thrilling. It drags on and on and on and never really explains much of any of the plot. And, there are completely useless scenes thrown in there that have little to nothing to do with the plot whatsoever. I can't take a moment of this film seriously.
By the time the film reaches its "horrifying ending", I have no remorse for Edward Malus. I've only been laughing out loud the whole time. I bought this film for 3 bucks as a joke, and decided to give the director's commentary a try. In the commentary, the director discusses that Nic improvised small sequences, like when he pulls out the gun and hilariously declares "Step away from the bike!" Also, he says that the bear punch scene was either going to be funny or serious and he said he was happy to see it come out as a serious sequence. What is he thinking? There is no way someone can take watching a guy in a bear suit punch someone in the face as not funny.
All of this film is god awful. Just watch it as a joke with your friends and laugh at every single time Nic Cage "tries" to play a cop. He's the worst freakin' cop ever. I know this isn't the most serious review of mine, but it's hard to write a serious review for this film considering its hilarious context. If you want to watch this for serious value, absolutely do not.
