Review of The Wicker Man (2006) by Chad H — 17 Aug 2013
This movie is just horrendous. I thought this movie would be the kind of movie that is so bad its good. I saw this movie with my friend because I had doubts that I could get through it alone, and after seeing it I could not have been able to watch this alone.
Its laughable but only at times. The rest of the movie is just convoluted nonsense. The characters have no development whatsoever not even the main hero. Nicolas Cage does a horrible job carrying the film until the very end where he goes completely insane and even that is just worth about eight minutes of laughs.
I would also like to say that I saw two different endings on the DVD that this film was on. The "shocking and appalling" ending cut from theaters was just bad, so curiously I thought what the original ending was.
I saw it and it was twice as bad and made absolutely no sense. I am a huge fan of the original "Wicker Man" movie. It has ambiance, atmosphere, suspense and thrills. This movie a complete mockery of the original and I cannot even bare to call this a remake.
Maybe more of a ridiculous sequel in another timeline. Anything to distance this movie from the original. The tone is just odd and seems to be very monotone all thanks to Nicolas Cage. I try not to give a movie anything lower than a 30% but this one is just so bad its terrible.
Avoid this movie at all costs. If you want to see the best parts of this movie just watch them on youtube or skip right to the last ten minutes of the film. Wasted my time with this movie. Skip this one indefinitely.
