Review of The Wicker Man (2006) by Deena A — 19 Jan 2011
When I saw The Wicker Man in theaters, I was angry because of how horrible the movie was. But then a couple of years later, I started watching these hilarious parodies of the movie on YouTube and had a revelation: the movie was never meant to be taken seriously. In that sense, The Wicker Man is a comedy masterpiece worthy of multiple oscars at the very least.
I know what you're thinking--but the movie is atrocious! Well, duh that's pretty obvious, but the point is The Wicker Man is a great bad movie. It's hilarious because it is unintentionally being funny. After watching the movie once again, it is nearly impossible to take anything from this movie seriously, especially with Nicolas Cage running around in a bear suit punching women in the face.
That is not what I would call serious acting; seriously crazy maybe, but not serious at all. The Wicker Man is a work of genius and probably could not be repeated again. It is hilarious in its awfulness. But in all seriousness, I couldn't bring myself to give it a higher rating than one star. Why? Because it is still a bad movie with a bad plot and bad acting and pretty much bad everything.
If you are looking to watch a movie with real character development and an engaging story, I would not recommend you watch The Wicker Man. That put aside, if you are looking for a movie that takes itself way too seriously and creates unintentional comedy, then I think you should see The Wicker Man. But whatever you do, just don't take it seriously okay?
