Review of The Wicker Man (1973) by Matthew L — 28 Oct 2008
I'm surprised people don't love this as much as I did. This isn't a typical horror movie. It completely relies on the creepy town and their strange religious practices. I love how the film doesn't really judge the people, but the film is mainly treated as a portrayal, backed up by all the folk music, and it gives it a strange realism.
The story is very simple, but as the film goes on, you get the feeling that nothing is what is seems and when you reach the unexpected ending, it is extremely effective and shocking. The thing that sucks most about this being remade is the fact the ending is probably ruined for most of the people who have seen the laughable remake.
Super effective horror.
