Review of The Wicker Man (1973) by Sean H — 28 Jan 2014
I think a large complaint that seems to get directed at this film is that it is supposedly 'misrepresented' as a horror. No it isn't a gore-fest or a bloody slasher with some poor autistic murderer that was given a knife for his 8th birthday, but the horror is definitely here, and it insidiously swells to a bursting point in the unforgettable climax.
Maybe creepy rural villages and obtuse islanders with animal masks is just my thing, but the ominous tone throughout and Edward Woodward on form as the Christian cop who's morals and way of thinking come under threat make this an unforgettable watch.
