Christopher Lee (a magnetic presence in the film, incidentally) has denied that this is a horror film: if it is a horror film, it should be considered one of the most original and finest expressions of the form.
If it is viewed as something separate, however, it proves itself one of the most enigmatic expressions of cinema.
