Review of The Whistleblower (2010) by Bryan P — 03 Jul 2012
The Whistle Blower - CATCH IT (A-).
The Whistle Blower is inspired by true events and based upon Kathryn Bolkovac, an American police officer who takes a job working as a peacekeeper in post-war Bosnia. During her work as UN peacemaker Kathryn uncover a sex slave club which forced young girls to work as waitress on front and sex slaves on the back. Contrary to her believes when she tried to uncover the human trafficking and sex slavery in the clubs she was fired as the people involved in these are none other than her own people and international contractors. The Whistle Blower is a hardcore movie about the brutality and aftermath of war. In Bosnia even the war was ended in 1995 but the aftermath was as horrific as the war itself.
The movie is really good and it tackles and the matter not only sensitively but cleverly in a thrilling way so audiences should understand the level of corruption happening around the world. The movie also shows the cruel face of humanity how these people have families and children at their countries but here they become animals who surpass every limit of humanity just for the sack of amusement. Even though the movie is shocking and incredible I found the ending to be very forced and unexplained as we never know what happened to the girls still working in the clubs somehow its assumed that Kathryn may have blown away UN cover up but those girls were still trapped as victims.
There is moment in the movie where a at the woman shelter the woman says that "All the men in Bosnia were massacred in the War so who are these men who go to the clubs, bars and use these girls as sex slaves"?. It was a riveting moment to realize that these clubs were established for the men coming on international contracts and UN Peacemakers.
Rachel Weisz is magnificent as Kathryn Bolkovac UN peacekeeper. It has strong supporting cast like Vanessa Redgrave, Benedict Cumberbatch, David Strathairn, Roxana Condurache, Monica Bellucci, Nikolaj Lie Kaas and Luke Treadaway.
I will highly recommend this movie to everyone as it tries to uncover the true face behind Humanity and also UN Peacemaker who make money on the suffering of the miserable people.
