Review of The Westerner (1940) by Private U — 20 Aug 2007
It's a solid western--Gary Cooper does well in the role that he was a master of, while Walter Brennan steals the film as Judge Roy Bean. There are a lot of funny moments (Bean was a funny guy in and of himself) and some amazingly done scenes, like the fire scene and the theater scene.
The romance between Cooper and Doris Davenport is fairly conventional, but the movie as a whole is fun.
