Review of The Week Of (2018) by Sj M — 29 Apr 2018
This is a sweet funny feel-good movie. This showed an evolution of Adam Sandler and Chris Rock as more understated and reserved, yet with touches of the Sandler/Rock humor that people have come to expect.
I really liked the fact that people are just people in this film, and it gave us a break from the racial issues that are problematic and divide our country. Yes, there is one scene where Adam's character, Kenny Lustig, thinks 2 African American men are part of his future son-in-law's family,Tyler played by Roland Buck III, but it's meant to bring an element of levity and light-heartedness, and I saw it as more of a statement to how big Tyler's family is, and how welcoming Kenny and his wife, Debbie played brilliantly by Rachel Dratch, are to everyone.
I also appreciated the observational comedy that ran throughout the film. It was very sharp, dry, and neurotic, which has a very Larry David-esque quality to it. Steve Buscemi plays Kenny's cousin Charles and is phenomenal.
I loved how the whole cast really felt like 2 families coming together to celebrate a wedding joining them, and how miserable it can be, but also how sweet and wonderful. Watch it!
