Review of The Wedding Ringer (2015) by Tyler R — 22 Aug 2015
Laziness seems to be the downfall of a lot of comedies lately. Sacrificing any type of decent story in favor of mindlessly hopping from one gag to the next. Enter The Wedding Ringer (It even has a lazy title) to do absolutely nothing to change things up.
The film throws a loser together with a man who is hired to simulate the best man experience at weddings. Kevin Hart can be funny and Josh Gad, well, I can't say that anything of his sticks out in my mind.
But here, neither are funny and everyone else around them is also not funny. And that is due to the very poor and incredibly clichà (C)d writing. Every plot beat, every "twist", and every gag can be called long before they happen.
Acting wise, no one does anything special in particular, mainly because a huge portion of the jokes are either sex related, racist, or oddly over the top. The only good thing that can be said about the film is that it moves along rather briskly.
And when the film does reach it's "emotional" conclusion, the viewer is left sitting and wishing for a comedy that doesn't treat it's viewer like an idiot.
