Review of The Wedding Planner (2001) by Patrick L — 30 Apr 2012
I had not seen this film until yesterday, not having much interest in the film, and I am glad that I finally did see it. This was much better than I expected, given the rather unique handling of the main characters and their relationship (predictable but in a rather unpredictable way).
If you expect Lopez's character to have a happy ending then you won't be disappointed, unless you're rooting for her to marry her childhood acquaintance (it seems that she will but ultimately that doesn't happen), as she does find happiness and love after much disappointment.
I like the chemistry between Lopez and McConaughey although his character seems a bit too "caddish" for a romantic lead, in that he is not open and upfront with Lopez's character when they go out on a "date".
As for the woman that Mc's character was originally to marry, one wonders why on earth he ever even dated her (even when he explains how they met and the attraction between them).
The bride-to be, who ultimately doesn't get married, is rather self-absorbed and seemingly clueless to the attraction of her fiance and Lopez during more than one scene. She seems rather unattractive, personality-wise, although she is a physically attractive if sharp looking blonde haired woman.
