Review of The Weather Man (2005) by Brad G — 12 May 2010
If youâ??re in a stable mood, you might enjoy this dark and deeply depressing film centered on Nicolas Cageâ??s sad sack weather man. Peer behind that Hello America smiley face on your TV set and discover just another failed husband/failed father/failed novelist/failed everythingâ??well, heâ??s pretty good at archeryâ?¦and reading a teleprompter? Michael Caine as his Pulitzer Prize awarded father is typically brilliant and his droopy stares and frank fatherly conversations are just damn brutal.
You gotta be good with awkward laughs and a general sense of squirming, but if ya can take it, you might find yourself surprisingly satisfied by the climactic minimal emotional growth. And director Gore Verbinski can make a pretty lookinâ?? movie to boot.
