Review of The Way Way Back (2013) by Zeeshan S — 05 Jan 2014
8 out of 10. Another plane catch-up.
I'm a sucker for this kid of movie. The draw for me was Carrell. It turns out his character is unpleasant and the small town summer vacation joy comes more from the relationship our awkward teen protagonist forms with Rockwell's character instead. Now I don't know anything about being an awkward teen, obviously, but I imagine it'd be good for any awkward teen boy to have an Owen in their lives. And a cute blonde summer love interest. I genuinely know nothing about how that would be..but I imagined it'd be nice because this movie did such a bang up job of making me see everything like I was 14 again. Well done to the entire cast...Rockwell, Janey, Peat...and Carrell too, who proves he can play it straight and nasty. This is a lovely movie with a great soundtrack and a very satisfying ending.
