Review of The Way Way Back (2013) by Hugo P — 18 Mar 2014
This is one of my favorite movies of the year. The Way Way Back is one of the best coming of age stories I've seen since Stand by Me. And no I have not seen Mud, or The Kings of Summer yet, I do want to see those films.
Anyway, this is a great directorial debut for Nat Faxon and Jim Rash. The best part of the movie without a doubt is Sam Rockwell. He just knocks it out of the park with his role of the laid back guy, who is showing Duncan (the main character) how to not be awkward and to find himself, himself being Duncan.
Liam James is great as Duncan, he really gets the awkward kid look spot on. Steve Carell gives the greatest performance of his life. Steve Carell plays the jerk in the movie, and he does a really great job playing the jerk, you truly hate his character.
Nat Faxon and Jim Rash are also great in the role they play, that they wrote for themselves. I was never bored from watching the movie, I was really interested in the story I wanted to know what happens to Duncan's life.
Another performance that I forgot to mention that would be Annasophia Robb, playing Susana who is the love interest of Duncan. This is the best movie she has been in, she does a good job playing the character, someone who doesn't really care but still does care, kind of complicated to describe her character, but it is way way! better than Bridge to Terabithia, and Race to Witch Mountain.
One of the best movies I've seen all year, if not the best movie of 2013 for me, This movie is great I didn't really see any problems with it, and that's why I give the movie a 5/5.
