Review of The Way Way Back (2013) by Michael N — 21 Apr 2014
A fantastic summertime coming of age story, similar to what the late John Hughes would write. Sam Rockwell gives a hilariously engaging performance, Liam James is a surprise talent, and Steve Carell shocks as such a mean, MEAN character.
The story is familiar, but very entertaining, and it's infused with a lot of charm. Sometimes the drama gets a little too heavy, and the pacing in the beginning is uneven, but overall The Way Way Back is a wonderful, classic coming of age tale for a new generation.
