Coming of age is usually difficult to do unless you get the casting right. From Descendants writers Faxon and Rash, Way, Way Back is a great character piece that is equal parts funny and emotional even if the movie is spelled out too much in the trailers and isn't quite that inventive.
Still the performances from James, Rockwell, Carrell is mesmerizing.
