Review of The Way Way Back (2013) by Neil R — 28 Mar 2015
I watch Steve Carrell movies as a matter of course but it's Sam Rockwell (Moon, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy) who really steals the show in this one. One of the most caring, funny, moving mentor-mentee movies I've seen.
The script is zip-dingity witty and the supporting cast and indie soundtrack are phenomenal. (Plus INXS' New Sensation, anyone?!) It captures all the misery and awkwardness of being 14 and watching your mum try to create a reconstituted family with a real jerk.
It's hard not to laugh and cry the entire way through.
