Review of The Way Back (2011) by Tomas T — 11 Jun 2011
Much like in Master And Commander, the director Peter Weir sure knows how to make grand scale movies and The Way Back is no different. The alleged true story of group of Polish prisones walking their way to freedom from Siberia to India promises a lot but falls couple steps too short in the end.
The movie sports a mix of big name actors with less famous one which works rather well. There is no bad thing to say about the actors but I would have expected much more in touch directing because the suffering and hardness of this gigantic undertaking by the prisoners just does not make as big impact as one would have thought. Then there is the matter of credibility, it has been allegated that the walk never happened. Fiction or fact, the movie is definitely watchable and good survival story but with more involving directing it could have been great.
