3: This must have been hell to film and perform in, but this would obviously be nothing to having actually lived it. It's a remarkable story that I'm very pleased Peter Weir was able to bring to the screen.
I only wish he would get cracking on Master & Commander Parts II-XX. Wouldn't that be nice. The notion that these men, and one woman, needed to travel so far on foot - from Siberia to India - to escape the dreadful spectre of communism is a palpable and vital one.
It truly seems to be the most natural thing in the world, which is a testament to the skill of Weir and his team. The photography is superb and the scope is worthy of Lean himself, even if everyone knows he could have done it much, much better.
I suppose it is a bit of a disappointment, but I still enjoyed it immensely.
