Review of The Way Back (2011) by Greg B — 10 May 2011
Quite a movie, I must say. Thinking that a 2 hour movie of walking can be boring, I was wrong. This is a great film of struggle to survive. The cooperation with National Geographic really did help a lot, since the shots were fantastic by all means.
Koodos to Jim Sturgess who totally pulls of a Pole. I would never even imagine that he is a Brit, if I didn't know. For the time that Colin Farrell was in the movie, he did an awesome job as well, and his Russian wasn't too too bad afterall.
He was probably my fav character in the movie for he symbolizes a lot of Russian people, who despite the struggle against the system, cannot leave the country because of their love to the Russian land.
Ed Harris was quite solid as usual, whie Saoirse Ronan gives an awesome performance for a beginner. That girl will go far, I tell you. All in all, this movie did have several weaknesses, it ain't perfect.
But I liked the idea and the execution.
