Review of The Way Back (2010) by Mloy X — 01 Mar 2014
Valka (Colin Farrell): You say too many prayers for an innocent man.
I don't know why but for some strange reason I thought this movie would be less depressing. I mean, don't misunderstand: what the group was able to accomplish was truly amazing and very inspiring; but silly me, I guess I had hoped for more of a happier ending. Nonetheless, the movie was excellent, the story was very compelling and surprisingly gripping. The cast was perfect. I cannot chose a weak performance in the group, they all did a marvelous job. I have never been a fan of Ed Harris but he is a very decent actor and I think he was doubly great in this one. Jim Sturgess is fast becoming one of my favorite young actors. He seem to always find a part very well suited for him. I'm already a fan of the ubber talented Saoirse Ronan-- she's an absolute gem of a performer and can do no wrong in my book. I like Collin Farrell, admittedly this may not be his strongest performance but I didn't find his portrayal of the character too disagreeable. Overall, this film was an incredible tale of hope and a shinning example of the human spirit and our ability to overcome the odds. This was a truly fascinating story.
