Review of The Way (2010) by Roxanne R — 03 Mar 2012
It takes maturity, wisdom, and growing up to write, direct and produce a film of this great caliber! I don't know when was the last time you saw a film that moved you but this one did it to me. Nothing elaborate, no big Hollywood production or stellar cast yet it will win your heart.
For any travelers out there this is a MUST see film. Father and son star on this epic film about an ophthalmologist named Thomas Avery (Martin Sheen) who goes to France to identify and recover the corpse of his son Daniel (Emilio Estevez) killed in the Pyrenees during a storm while walking the Camino de Santiago, a Catholic pilgrimage route to the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela in Galicia, Spain, also known as the Way of St.
James. Tom's purpose is initially to retrieve his son's body. However, in a combination of grief and homage to his son, Tom decides to walk the same ancient spiritual trail where his son had died.
Redemption comes in many ways and its ironic that an eye doctor was so blind about life that if it wasnt for the death of his son, he would not have learned to experience the joy of traveling, of LIVING! This film celebrates camaraderie, travel, good and bad times, and ultimately the act of forgiveness.
I cried during the first 10 minutes and cried at the last 10. In between, it was an extraordinary travel. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED AND ADDED TO MY PRIVATE COLLECTION!!!!!!!
