This is Russell Crowe's directorial debut and you can tell. He has a great cinematographer at his disposal, but seems almost too keen to do a lot of film-making tricks rather than just telling the story, the colorization is the one that bothered me the most.

The story is an interesting though, yet the script is flawed. The acting by all is really what saved it. Crowe is great, and all the other actors are strong. I would've liked to see this film with a more assured director at the helm, and with Crowe in the lead focusing solely on his performance.

Still, I found it worth watching.
