Review of The Watcher in the Woods (1980) by Kaylee L — 17 Feb 2008
An American family moves into an old English manor house owned by Mrs. Elwood (Bette Davis). Before long the eldest daughter begins seeing images of a young woman blindfolded and reaching out for help. She soon realizes that this image is the ghost of the landlady's missing daughter and resolves to find out what happened so the apparition will quit haunting her and her little sister.
The movie started off great, and it had some nice little jump scares. The atmosphere was slightly creepy too, but the special effects do not hold up in today's market. Still, it would have been decent had it not been for the craptastic ending. (Which could have been even worse if you explore the alternate endings on the DVD) Still I can see how it would scare children, but since this was my first time watching it (at nineteen) I cannot have the nostalgic love for it as many other reviewers do.
Overall, a decent children's chiller, brought down by bad special effects and a ridiculous ending.
