Review of The Warrior's Way (2010) by Jaber H — 08 Feb 2011
Although it attempts Jean-Pierre Jeunet inspired whimsy at times, The Warrior's Way is a convoluted mess of effects-heavy action and bare-bones plot. Some parts are pretty cool, and the effects usually work at creating an involving world, but the film never comes together narratively or dramatically.
Still, the performances are outrageous, from Bosworth's Annie Oakley impersonation, to Geoffrey Rush's drunken ex-sharpshooter (what, no Oscar nomination??), to Danny Huston. I can't tell if Huston elevates the junk he's in, or if he just doesn't give a shit and goes for broke.
It's no masterpiece, but for a disaster it's mighty fine to look at, and it's pretty incredible to see a modestly budgeted action pic of this size that is so self-aware of how bad it is.
