Review of The Warrior's Way (2010) by Conny C — 19 Mar 2011
Man, I really wanted to like this movie, it had so much potential under the guidance of a different writer/director, but I just couldn't. I actually feel that my 4/10 rating is too high, but I did enjoy some aspects of it.
The only good acting in the film came from Danny Huston, and the last 20-30 minutes or so were really fun, but it has one of the worst scripts of the year, combined with some really horrible acting. Kate Bosworth and Geoffrey Rush both delivered some of their worst performances, and Tony Cox was pretty bad aswell.
Dong-gun Jang and Lung Ti, two respected asian actors didn't bring much to the table because they were talking in English, hence the acting is laughable, they should have talked in their native languages or hired different actors.
Some of the sets were too green-screen, I mean I love Sin City and 300, but the backgrounds here were noticably poor in some scenes. All in all the saving grace is Danny Huston's menacing performance, and seeing ninjas fight cowboys.
The upcoming Cowboys and Aliens looks like a much better genre-bending film, and a good film at that.
