Review of The Warrior's Way (2010) by Scott T — 28 May 2011
Loved this movie. Yes its ridiculous and yes some of the dialogue leaves a lot to be desired but visually it looked fantastic and has entertainment in spades. The Eastern Western hasn't been done this well since Shanghai Noon and although this is a lot more violent and nowhere near a comedy, the film flew by.
Danny Huston is spot on as the most despicable baddie I've seen in ages, Kate Bosworth is watchable as the Texan accented orphan that has revenge on her mind, Jang Dong-gun is the standard stoic kick ass samurai (or the greatest swordsman in the world apparently - ooer) and Geoffrey Rush as the comic relief/drunken ex-super marksman.
It's shot much like 300 and has some fantastic sunset backgrounds, cracking set pieces reminiscent of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (but with guns) and one of my favourite guilty pleasure movies from now on.
If you are a fan of chopsocky at all give it a whirl, you'll be entertained and that's all you can ask for.
