Review of The Warrior's Way (2010) by Kent H — 22 Feb 2012
In all of these fusion of East/West movies, it would be genuinely fascinating to see a film that creates something new rather than simply changing costumes. If you're going to go to all the trouble to be all stylistic and stuff, all "Wooooo - look what we did! We put ninjas in the Wild West!" wouldn't it be more interesting to change what's *beneath* the fancy duds, rather than playing dress up with the same characters in different clothes?
This film offers some visual eye-candy but nothing of substance to chew on. Fight choreography is mediocre - I suspect because they spent most of their budget on visual effects rather than rehearsing fight sequences. This is a hackneyed storyline with absolutely nothing original, other than that there are ninja assassins in the Wild West. Just about every stereotype you've come to expect in either a Western or a martial arts film is maintained here. For a moment, I thought there might be some redeeming originality at the end, but no. It was not to be.
While there are far worse films you could spend your time on, I suggest continuing to look for something better than this one.
