Review of The Warrior's Way (2010) by Robert H — 22 Feb 2013
Misunderstood has to be the best word to explain how so many reviewers could pan this film. Formulas and sequels sell. "How I Met Your Mother" is considered high art in America. Small minds think alike.
Refreshing is the best word to realistically describe the reality and beauty of the movie. Violent yet graceful. Violent yet moral. Unreal but truthful. No doubt many viewers were disappointed that their preconceptions of that the movie would be the standard issue "High Noon" remake with the usual neatly tied ribbon on top were not met and instead they were required to step outside the box.
I must assume that reviewers went to this movie expecting Jackie Chan making childish wise cracks and high kicking the same old villains and simply were not prepared for the challenge of a surreal trip outside the formula factory, Hollywood paradigm mill.
Visually stunning it pays homage to Eastwood westerns yet lives in a fantasy world of beautiful light and sound and imagination. This movie will not please small minds that require a regimen of the same old pabulum day after day after day.
