Review of The Ward (2010) by Rj M — 08 Jun 2011
For the first outing in over 9 years John Carpenter's The Ward is sadly only saved by a satisfactory conclusion albeit not hugely original or surprising.
Admitted to a psychiatric ward after torching a building for reasons unknown Kristen(Heard) finds herself amongst other young girls with similar mental problems.
But sightings during the night of a girl wandering the corridors followed by vanishings one by one the other patients lead Kirsten to realise she must escape or risk vanishing herself.
Unfortunately it just plods along with the usual lecherous ordelies & mean nurses dispensing sedation & the probing of Dr Stringer(Harris).
A couple of mediocre tension wise chase scenes & the rare sighting of the actual focus of the horror leave the fim lacking that usual Carpeneter magic & it's only as it concludes you feel relieved that it actually bothers to explain itself.
