Review of The Ward (2010) by Meshawn L — 29 Jul 2011
Oh JC. I really want to say "The Master of Horror is Risen" on this one, but I just can't do it. I also want to ask Carpenter why he'd choose to spend time with such a dopey, unforgettable, rambling nowhere Horror 101 script from two screenwriting brothers who brought us nothing of note to date? Seriously--is it the money? Because you ain't makin' any with this one, unless you count fangirls and boys like me who'll sit through this threadbare straight to DVD mess just because your name's on it.
As the film makes its way toward a painfully predictable, uninspired ending (ugh--so much BAD writing), the shame here is that the cast is actually decently talented (Amber Heard, Piper from Drive Angry, plays the lead; Jared Harris, Lane from Mad Men, plays her creepy "should I really trust this guy" psychiatrist). And we know Carpenter can throw some shiznit down--but this is certainly nowhere near the bad-assery we're used to from the man. Waaaah!
SAD I tell you. SAD! Go do one of those Westerns you love so much JC! I have faith in you!
