Review of The Ward (2010) by Jay C — 11 Jan 2012
I have high expectations when it comes to films by john carpenter considering he is the genius who made the classic "halloween", so I was expecting a good film here at least. I was a little disapointed at the end, there were some scenes that were definetely "carpenter" style scenes but others were a little stupid.
I think as far as asylum setting films goes they always end up disapointing they have so much to work with but always fall short and this is another one. The acting isn't bad and is believable at least, there are a few "jumpy" scenes that show the "ghost" that haunts the ward but the thing I truely hate about films is when they show the "ghost" at the end in full view... Seriously?! why not keep the fucking thing for quick camera shots etc instead of showing it in full at the end taking part in fight scenes that Jackie Chan would be proud of.
The "ghost" instantly becomes laughable and the interest in this kinda film is gone, well it was for me anyway.. overall it wasnt a bad film but wasnt great either by Carpenters standards. Its watchable for a few jumpy scenes but thats about it.
