Review of The War Tapes (2006) by Daryn C — 03 Jun 2007
I have never served in combat and hope to never serve in combat, but that does not mean that I don't want to hear the stories and experiences of actual soldiers so that I can develop at least a civilian understanding of what these individuals go through on both the battlefield and when returning home.
This is one the best films I have seen that attempts to do the impossible, which is to portray the internal conflicts, the anxiety, and the pride that many veterans feel.
It is a tough film to watch for a number of reasons, but a film that I think would serve American well to watch because it lets you into the lives of these National Gaurdsmen whose lives and experiences are far more complex than the characters the news media develops when telling the story of the Iraq War.
