Review of The War on Democracy (2007) by Greg K — 19 Nov 2007
The USA has been involved in overthrowing 50 presidents in 30 South American counties since 1945. Most of them were democracies. By telling the stories about the countries that were trying to give the wealth of the country to the people instead of to the USA you can see a pattern that is repeating itself over and over again.
Because the new ideas of the country does not coincide with the ideas of the USA the government is usually overthrown with direct or indirect support of the USA. Later a USA-friendly dictator takes the power and give the wealth of the country back to the USA.
You get to see interviews with people from the CIA where they try to explain why it was necessary to sacrifice a couple of counties so that the USA can keep the areas of interests. You get to here stuff that is so sad that it is almost funny.
Like an interview with a woman from the US living in Chile : I donâ??t think anyone is tortured in this country. Why should you torture someone when you can shoot him instead. This was a real eye opener for me.
You should go and see it.
