Review of The War on Democracy (2007) by Stephen C — 23 Feb 2011
John Pilger is a restrained Michael Moore and his documentaries are always interesting.
This one uncovers how the USA sought to undermine South American goverments by installing brutal dictators who caused the deaths of hundreds of people during their regimes.
Ricahrd Nixon once said "No one gives a shit about South America" but it turned out the US did care toplling goverments to keep the people under the yolk of US backed rulers.
Pilgers style is to appraoch the history of this control and how Hugo Chavez and Evo Morales challenged this gross miscarriage of peoples rights.
As a result Pilger shows that the US media has labelled these new leaders tyrants and terrorists.
The film never seeks to preach but is designed to open your eyes to how US policy is carried out abroad.
An intelligent and worthy film.
