Review of The War of the Worlds (1953) by Cal ( — 23 Nov 2007
An old, slow and very out-dated version of the classic HG Wells' novel. Some pretty good visual effects are quite good, but some of the cheesy dialogue and a short running time make this a name-only adaptation.
Basically the film follows a scientist who meets a beautiful girl where an alien pod has just landed, and then he runs all the way across the country trying to save himself and his damsel. This film may be a classic, but by today's standards it isn't as good as it should have been.
If you must watch this version, be sure to hire out Spielberg's new version afterwards.
